Pet-Friendly Community
Our team at Garrett Fillmore Modern Apartments knows life is simply better with pets — and we can’t wait to meet yours! From the jingle of a leash before a cold-morning walk to the contented sigh of a pup curled up after a long hike, we believe the best moments are the ones you share with your four-legged family members. That’s why our community is thoughtfully designed with pets in mind, offering room to run, a place to rinse off, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes tails wag.
Here, your mornings might start with a loop around the west-side neighborhood with Pikes Peak on the horizon, trading hellos with other pet parents along the way, and your evenings can be spent on your private balcony watching alpenglow settle over the foothills while your furry friend stretches out nearby. Whether it’s a quick rinse after a muddy trail run, a romp at the on-site dog park, or a short drive to the red rocks at Garden of the Gods, Garrett Fillmore makes it easy for you and your companions to thrive in Colorado Springs.
Paws Always Welcome at Garrett Fillmore
At Garrett Fillmore in Colorado Springs, our amenities are designed with pets in mind. Let your pup burn off energy at our fenced on-site dog park, wash away the trail dust at our on-site dog wash, or head west toward the foothills for a dose of fresh Colorado air. Whether it’s playtime, cleanup time, or adventure time, our community makes it easy for pets — and their people — to live their best lives.
Explore Local Dog-Friendly Spots Just Steps from Home
At Garrett Fillmore, we know pets are more than companions—they’re part of the family. Fortunately, our west-side address puts you in one of the most dog-friendly corners of Colorado, with patios, trailheads, groomers, and trusted care all within a few minutes of home.
Dog-Friendly Restaurants & Breweries
Start with the one that put Colorado Springs on the map for dog owners: Pub Dog Colorado was the state’s first restaurant where guests can dine indoors with their dogs, and it backs that up with an off-leash area so your pup can play while you eat. Practically in the neighborhood, Red Leg Brewing Company on Forge Road pairs a large dog-friendly outdoor area with a veteran-owned taproom just minutes from Garden of the Gods.
West of downtown, Cerberus Brewing Co. — named for the mythological three-headed dog, fittingly enough — welcomes well-behaved dogs throughout its award-winning beer garden and patio, with a brewpub menu well above the usual bar fare. For something more low-key, 503W offers a dog-friendly patio at a local restaurant and bar, and Rudy’s “Country Store” and Bar-B-Q keeps outdoor seating where pups are welcome alongside the brisket.
Dog Parks & Trails
This is where living on the west side really pays off. The Garden of the Gods Off-Leash Area gives your dog room to run within sight of the red rock formations, while Garden of the Gods Park itself offers miles of dog-friendly walking and hiking trails on leash — one of the most scenic daily walks in the country, and it’s free.
Bear Creek Dog Park is the go-to for serious off-leash time, with trails, wide-open areas, and creek access for dogs who’d rather swim than fetch. Just down Highway 24, Red Rock Canyon Open Space adds a network of dog-friendly hiking options through canyons and former quarry land, with enough route variety to keep the same hike from ever feeling the same.
Hiking the Front Range with Your Dog
A few things every new Colorado Springs dog owner learns quickly. At roughly 6,000 feet, dogs need time to acclimate just like people do — take the first few hikes shorter and slower, and carry more water than you think you need, since the dry air dehydrates pets faster than they show it.
In summer, sun-baked rock and gravel get hot enough to burn paws by midday, so aim for early mornings on exposed trails like those at Garden of the Gods. In winter, rinse or wipe paws after walks near treated sidewalks and parking lots, because ice melt is hard on pads. And year-round, watch for foxtails and cheatgrass in the open space areas — they work their way into paws and ears and are worth a quick check at the trailhead before you head home.
Pet Stores, Groomers & Boutiques
Pet Pantry & Dog Wash is the local favorite worth supporting — a locally owned shop carrying food, treats, and supplies, with self-service dog washing stations for the days your pup comes home muddier than you planned. For the bigger-box essentials and appointment-based grooming, PetSmart and Petco both have Colorado Springs locations offering supplies, grooming, training, and additional pet services.
Doggie Daycare & Pet Hotels
Heading out of town or working a long day? Camp Bow Wow Colorado Springs Central is right up the road on Northpark Drive, offering daycare, overnight boarding, and enrichment programming — plus live camera feeds so you can check in on your camper. Lucky Dog Resort & Training Center bills itself as the largest canine activity center in the city, combining daycare, boarding, training, and grooming under one roof, and Bear Creek Veterinary Care & Pet Resort pairs boarding and pet resort services with full veterinary care, which is ideal if your pet needs medication while you’re away.
Veterinary Care & Emergency Resources
For everyday care, Yorkshire Veterinary Hospital provides full-service veterinary medicine, and Pikes Peak Veterinary Clinic handles routine and preventative care for local pets. It’s worth saving one more in your phone before you need it: Animal ER Care provides emergency veterinary care for the Colorado Springs area, for the moments you hope never happen.
From sunrise trail runs and red rock views to reliable grooming and care, Garrett Fillmore makes it easy to embrace a pet-loving lifestyle in Colorado Springs.
